Hello and hope you’re having a great week? Today we start on a new exciting feature called 'AuthorGate' when we encourage you to engage with a new author who has been adopted/fostered/or in care by hearing them read extracts of their new book. Then in the following episode (part 2 of this one) I will interview them about their writing experience too as i'm keen to find out how they have changed since writing their book, how has their story been received? What would they do differently etc. Podcast timeline for: AuthorGate with Michael Alan part 1 Introduction 0-6.00 mins I introduce Michael Alan our featured author. 'A boy named Tigger' is published by Austin Macauley and is available to purchase online and at Waterstones around the world. I've had the pleasure to read Michael's book and it is rammed with powerful insights and a his own thrilling life journey. I really love that Michael allows the reader to really get a clear 'child’s eye view' of what it felt like to be a child moving around a very limited child care system in the 1940’s. Michael clearly describes the grief, trauma and the added trauma of not just his adoption but the pain of being abused and tortured by his adoptive mother. The book is documented and draws a very clear picture of suffering and a search for answers too. We also get to read about how he ran away and cycled 186 miles (apologies, I said 189 in the podcast!) in 24 hours as a young boy in an attempt to escape his abusive mother, I think any Olympian would be impressed if not shocked to read of a little boy cycling along the A3 motorway in the UK at night making a bolt for freedom. We also read about the confusion of relationships, puberty and then how he had to find the strength and creativity to heal, overcome and use all the childhood trauma’s and challenges to jettison him into a successful adult life. Is it even possible? Please read this book for yourself and enjoy Michael's reading in this podcast episode. What is even more remarkable, is that Michal has written this book in his 70’s – proving that it’s never too old to write and share your truth to help others Michael is an everyday man who has had a remarkable life. Michael reads from A boy Named Tigger 6-13.33mins Enjoy hearing Michael read from his book. Meet Michael - Episode 6 available on 16th March. I can't wait to be in conversation at the AuthorGate again with Michael Alan and interview him about his work and why he wrote the book, what challenges he faced emotionally and practically, what tips would he give to other writers and how he would like this book to be used to help others. Also, if you have any questions for Michael then please do DM us in social media, or simply drop us an email hello@adoptionarena.com Please do purchase the book. Thank you for listening and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel and support us, because your kind donations really do keep this channel and our work at Adoption Arena alive. Welcome to the series 2 of the Adoption Arena Podcast! The first 7 minutes is an introduction of what has happened since series 1 and what the new series promised, then we dive straight into the first half of my interview with the amazing Laura C. Listen from 07.31 You can hear the full interview with Laura C on Wednesday 26th January. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel - thank you :-) x About Laura Laura was adopted at the age of six weeks, and recently was reunited with six brothers and sisters, she never knew she had. Her adoption story is a triumphant testimony of overcoming rejection and attachment disorder, and finding gratitude and joy in her adoption experience. She has been recording and leading worship since the age of 11, and has lived in Los Angeles, where she was signed to Chrysalis Music. As a songwriter, Laura has had songs recorded by major artists, and has featured in film and TV. For the last 3 years, she has been travelling the world leading worship. During this tine she has been radically transformed by the Lord and is a powerful Christian, she now writes, records and releases Ascension Worship. Please do follow Laura C and her work: www. lauracmusic.com About Adoption Arena Adoption Arena focuses on discussing the complex and ever changing issues that affect adoptees, foster families and those who are linked with the adoption and fostering world in some way. We are based in the UK but overseas adoptions mean that more understanding of multi-cultural families and ethnicity is often required for young people and families to really flourish. This programme is hosted by Joy Carter, who is herself a transracial adoptee from Nigeria to the UK arriving in London at the age of 2. Every adoptee needs the pioneering spirit to overcome firstly their own life challenges that stem from adoption and the many complexities that occur. Adoption Arena desires to help create more voices, people sharing their stories to the media and press, we wish to create more advocates and pioneers to help shape the adoption arena for the good. As in the UK 1 in 4 adoptions breakdown, 1 in 4 adoptees suffer from mental health issues and or self harm, over 64% of adoptees/fostered young people end up in state prisons, few adoptees go onto higher education.. The shocking statistics speak for themselves. Africans say it takes a village to raise a child. This is true. We could all do more and this podcast will help give you the tools to help yourself, support a loved one and educate a friend.. Please listen and support our work. Adoption in the UK affects a quarter of the population! Cancer is 1 in 3. Adoption is that common and yet their is still much ignorance, bullying and silence around the subject. Things are getting a little better, but we could all do more to help people and see those and other shocking statistics fall. Love starts with a conversation and ends with an action of love. 'The journey is essential to the dream' St Francis of Assisi wisely said. The Western culture is obsessed with the dream and success but without diligence, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and careful cultivation of a young person or adult then the fullness of the dream isn't even nearly realised. Pioneers need not just purpose but all those factors and this podcast is committed to helping the most vulnerable achieve greatness - the ability to be authentically themselves, love others and find healing from an often difficult start in life. Thank you so much for reading, listening and sharing some time with us. Together with your help, we can build a better tomorrow that starts today.
